How We Met
We started with a few friendly jabs on Twitter, which moved to DMs, then WhatsApp, then a phone call that lasted two hours instead of the quick hello we'd planned. Ben sang 'Hero' by Enrique Iglesias, and that was it.
We talked for hours every day after that. Five days later, we both admitted we had feelings for each other
First Date
Our first date was on the Skywheel in Tallinn. Ben flew from Germany two days after Valentine's Day because waiting until the end of February felt too long.
It was surreal going from hours of phone calls to actually being together. We sat on the Ferris wheel overlooking the city, talking about how a few tweets on Twitter had somehow led to this moment. The reality of long-distance was obvious. Different countries, complicated logistics, but we decided it was worth figuring out.
After the Skywheel, we climbed the Patkuli stairs in the February cold. The stairs seemed endless, but we made it to the viewing platform at the top. It was our first time experiencing any of this together.
The Proposal
On Ani's birthday in May, about a year after we started dating, the plan was simple: a boat cruise on the Spree followed by dinner. Ben said he was getting a haircut first.
He took so long that Ani started panicking about being late for the cruise. She called him repeatedly, and each time he said he was on his way. When the doorbell finally rang, Ani was confused. Why was he ringing when he had his keys?
She opened the door to find Ben on one knee. She was so stunned she couldn't speak, and he had to ask twice before she finally said yes.
The ring had a story of its own. A year earlier, Ani had jokingly sent Ben a photo of a ring she liked, then completely forgot about it. Ben had taken a screenshot and used it as a reference to find something similar. He'd even remembered she wanted white gold, not yellow gold.
